Power seat switch failure?

Power seat switch failure?
Hey guys,
Recently my power seat stopped working. It moves the seat backwards but not forward. I popped the seat off the floor and took a look at the motor. I pulled the switch out and hooked my test light up to it. I think I have figured out the issue but want to confirm before I spend 60 bucks for a new switch. Using the test light...I've determined that I have power to the switch itself, and the test light signals power when I engage the switch in the backward direction, however there is not power to the forward side when I engage the switch that way....
To test this I tried to manually override the switch by connecting the power input on the back of the switch to the forward wire output; also on the back of the switch. Everytime I made this connection (with a small piece of speaker wire), I popped the fuse under the hood. (I'm not sure why this wouldn't work...) Should I just buy a new switch....if the manual override worked I would just adjust it properly once and keep it there saving the 60 bucks...
Thanks for any views and replies...
