Default Speedo Cable TOASTED!!! (ADVICE???)

my speedometer and odometer havent been working since ive owned my 5.0...i got under the transmission and noticed that the cable had been hitting the exhaust?? the outer black plastic has melted exposing the inner wires or whatever its made of.....but its still in tact.

ive never replaced a speedo cable before, and i dont know if its still any good. any advice??

Its no good. the plastic sheath has melted to the wire and frozen it in place. replace cable and use the bracket that comes on it to attach it out of the way

i replaced the cable...now its working but im guessing the car has gears. I marked the driveshaft and spun the passenger side rear wheel one complete turn...the driveshaft spun 4 times...im guessing it has 4.10's. so now the speedo works but i think its 10-15mph above the speed im actually going...

what year is the car and what trans ??

as long as it isn't an aod... you can get it close, if it's a '89 or older t5... you can get it right on with a driven gear swap... takes 5 minutes and $20

ok your good

'89 has a 7 tooth drive gear... so a 23t driven will work perfect

only prob is they are a jeep gear not ford... so it will sooner or later wear out, but will get you correct

everyone who sells a 23t is the same thing, check ebay, saleen etc.

The gear inside the trans(Drive gear) has 7 teeth. the one on the cable(Driven gear) should be a 23 tooth for 4.10s
