fuel pumps not matching(86 autozone replacement)

i got a fuel pump assembly from autozone and it is longer then the one i have in my fuel tank ..( it wont fit al the way in )

do you guys have any ideas if i have a swapped out tank from another year or 4 cylinder...

4 cyl tank is the same as a 5.0, vatozone, GAVE you the wrong pump, go to napa or elsewhere

why did you need a whole new assembly? couldnt you have just gotten a new pump?

+1 on the tank. 4 cylinder mustangs have the same tank. I doesn't surprise me that Autozone would give you the wrong part, I've had some issues with them in the past. Make sure that your getting it in the sump inside the tank.
