It's to clear the giant boltheads of those header bolts.

Also passing smog is still doable with long tube headers. Just place 2 good aftermarket catalytic convertors after the collectors.

also its not gonna have the smog setup on it so i dont need to worry about that

A lot of people say go with shortys because their a lot easier to install. If you have access to a cherry picker longtubes are not hard to install at all.

I think long tubes look better also.

not where i live. they do a visual inspection as well and as soon as they see the long tubes its an automatic fail

Good point lucky13. ANY visual changes will present an automatic fail. It's actually the same here in Ontario Canada but I just go to a mechanic who will overlook that as long as it blows clean.

Long tubes are a pain but they are worth a bit more power.
