Default ignition prob

well i thought i had it figured out. a few months back my car started to take longer for the key to actually engage the ignition. it would take a few seconds longer everyday for about a week then one day it wouldnt start it at all. i checked the wiring from the ignition to the coil and solenoid. all was good. i checked the coil. changed the solenoid and still good. the weird part is i can start my car just fine if i turn the key in the on position and jump the solenoid. i was talking to a guy today and he said he had the same prob and his was the ignition switch. well i checked mine out today and it seemed a little worn so i changed it too. still nothing. now im at a loss. i am now looking for new ideas. any would help.

i changed the solenoid, ignition switch and clutch switch. i did a voltage check at the coil and when disconnecting the coil and had 11.3 volts. if i went at the coil wires with it plugged in there was no voltage. all this is with the key in the on position. the thing is i can still jumo the solenoid to start the car with or without the coil plugged in. could it be a bad coil. running out of ideas here. thanks guys.

so.. i dont read hacked english, but i think i see you saying that you can jump the solenoid with the coil unplugged, and the car will fire up....

if thats true, scrap that car, cause you have a ghost.

Grab a test light and see if you have power going to the ignition terminal (S) post of the starter solenoid and have someone turn the key into the 'run' position. That will rule out your control side of the starter circuit IF your test light lights up.

You should have done that before spending $$$$$ on parts you didnt need

If you have no power going to the ignition switch terminal, check fuses, fuseable links and wiring.

mattdel-not the coil to the distributor unplugged but the feed from the ignition or input.

i have electrically checked from the ignition to the dist. did it a while back when i first saw the problem with a voltmeter and all was fine. if it were a fuse or fusable link i dont think the problem would have gotten worse over time. meaning it just would have stopped working completely not degraded over a weeks time. thats what lead me to the clutch and ignotion switches because i have seen switches do this type of thing. the coil im not sure about though. thats what made me question it today.
