Default 1988 mustang gt 5.0

I was driving my car and it just stopped running like you turned off a switch, it would turn over but not start. I sat there for about 10min. tried it again and it started and i drove home. I drove it the next day to work on the way home twice it seemed like it stopped running for a split second but never stopped completely , i made it home. im afraid to drive and get stranded. any ideas on what might be the problem. thanks jc1

Run codes! TFI module or Hall Effects Sensor in the distributor are the two likely culprits.

^^that's a good place to start, but to narrow it down to the fuel or ignition system, carry some ether and an old spark plug, let it run for a while in your driveway with the hood shut so heat can build up under the hood, if it is an ignition component, once enough heat passes through to the culprit component the circuit will often open up = car dies, at that point, check for spark or fuel, which with the two things in hand, I'd assume you know how too??

i usually test for spark by pulling the wire at the cap and letting it rest on the side, you'll see it bridge

i check fuel at the schrader valve
