Question leaky valve cover

does anyone know a trick to stop chrome valve covers from leaking? i have a small drip once every few mins when the engine is at idle. i have tried a simple rubber gasket, and red high temp silicone but to no avail. any ideas? thanks

Obviously it's not sealing somewhere, is the valve cover damaged any where it seals? make sure both surfaces are very CLEAN before putting a new gasket on..i'm currently using the FEL-PRO gaskets with compression stops...no leaks! make sure the gasket is lined up and torque the bolts down evenly so it seals all over.

Got a lip or no lip? Lip-cork. No lip-metal bonded rubber. Bubba

If the cover is flat on the sealing surfaces and not warped, then try a cork gasket and glue it to the cover with Permatex's "the right stuff" and then glue it to the head with the sealer also have you verified the leak is indead coming from the newly sealed covers???

RED RTV is not oil resistant.. you need tp use black, or the stuff MJR suggested

I used to have the felpro gaskets on my nova that were cork/steel/cork. I used permatex on the valve cover and white lube on the head side. Never leaked a drop and i was able to pull the covers off several times and just re-white lube them to the heads. (playing with new heads/valve adjustments) I have been out of the the building world for a while, so i don't even know if they still make these gaskets anymore.

fixed it. the rubber gasket that came with the heads/valve covers wasnt the correct fit.... go figure lol. a quick run to autozone for cork gaskets fixed the problem
