Default Idleing and fan problem!

Hi guys im new to the forum so i will describe my problem as best i can:
I recently rebuilt my 1995 5.0, bored .030 over all forged internals and trickflow stage one cam new water pump 3 angle valve job gt-40 intake BBk headers, etc. and i have been trying to do the timing myself and ive takin the PIP out and marked around 12 on my harmonic balancer but the problem is on my timing chain cover i dont have a pointer to guide where to put my marks exactly so ive been trying to do it by ear but it is very touchy it dies very easy but when i do get it to idle it juss seems to me like it is idleing way to rough. i know the cam its going cause the engine to lope but like the whole engine moves at idle. so if anyone can give me any tips that would be great but the other problem im having is the fan will not kick on with hot temp but i have hot wired the fan and it runs, ive tried to kick it on with the A/C but it wont and i unplugged the CCRM and when i was plugging it back in the fan would kick on and off but but i couldnt get it to consistantly run with the A/C, unplugging the ECT sensor, or testing the CCRM, so any tips on that would be great also! Thx.

Default vacuum leaks

I hooked up all vacuum lines and capped off the nonuseable hookups on the back of upper intake and i have the pcv hooked up in the back of the lower intake. i doubt its a vacuum leak but i have yet to go and spray the engine compartment with a spray bottle to check but i will just in case. thanks for the reply! I forgot to add on my original post that i did cut the egr, smog pump, and A/C out of the system. Dont know if those things have anything to do with the idle problem.

Oh and the firing order I do not know if it is messed up i basically went with the finger over the hole trick on the number one spark plug and when it blew my finger off i know it was on compression stroke and then hooked up spark plugs and turned the distributor so the the pointer was pointing towards a little to left (inbetween 3 and 1 on firing order) and the engine started right up. But i have the haynes book and did go by that firing order so i figured i was right but if i could be let me know!!

did u go off the passenger side no 1 and just to be sure the firing order is 13726548 and the distributor spins counter clockwise and they also make a egr simulator u can usually find on ebay

yes i used the passenger side # 1 and i think that was the order i used its not right in from of me but yea my stepdad suggested that the reason it was idling rough is that the finger on the hole deal isnt accurate and i need to stick a non breakable object on top of the piston and move the crank manually to ensure im actually at tdc or else the whole timing will be thrown off

Bajesus man go and purchase a timing pointer. By ear, my foot, try this ... put half a glass of water on intake and when the ripples get smoothe pour water on ground and buy a pointer.

All the finger over the hole does is tell you if you are 180 deg out. For sure that should not be relied on for the number of degrees before fire.

How hot is the engine reaching. The factory ON temp for the engine fan is way above thermostat temperature.

The factory setting for fan to come on is 221*-223*F. Temp gauge will be around the a almost to l of normal before fan comes on.
