the 95 to 97 exlpoeres had egr provision on the GT40E intake
the 97 1/4 and up had no egr provision on the GT40E intake

gt40 heads were on 93 to 95 cobras and 95 to 97 exploreres
97 1/4 and up had GTP heads

Heres a hint too if you are hunting boneyards and Ebay, Mountaineers of the same years also had the GT40 heads and intake. A friend of mine just bought a complete running 302 out of a 97 Mountaineer off Ebay for $200, it had all the GT40 goodies. Nobody even bid on it cause the guy listed it wrong.

I got my upper and lower intake manifold from a 1998 Explorer I had no problems fitting in propperly just make sure you get new seals and be careful with your fuel injectors they tend to be very sensitive when you try to put them in into your new intake, anyway good luck and happy hunting......oh! I paid $200 for mine on ebay.
