Default Tapping the Temp sensor hole

I have a 98 explorer 5.0 that is going into my 94 mustang and I know I need to drill and tap the lower intake for the coolant sensor. What I would like to know is what size and thread do I need to use to tap this properly. Thanks in advance guys.

I pretty sure you need a 3/8 npt tap. when you pick that up it should tell you what size drill bit to use on it.

Depends on the type of gauge being used. Autometer uses a 1/8" NPT.

Yes it is 3/8" NPT.. I went with a 9/16" drill bit because it's easier to find and works just as well.

I based the size on a factory type coolant sensor in the manifold. If your are using something else take it with you to the store and match it up
