Default Trick Flo head install

Im going to start tearing the engine apart to put some Trick Flo aluminum heads on it. I have a couple of questions, can I use my stock push rods or do I need to get custom length push rods? I bought the heads used and Id like to have them checked at the machine shop, if they take ten thousandths off the heads will I have valve to piston clearance problems? Can I use my stock valve cover with roller rockers? I'm looking to put in a TFS stage 1 cam, someone asked me why not a stage 2, and I didnt have an answer for them can you guys tell me if I can/or should use a stage 2 or should I stick with the stage 1? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance, any info is much appreciated

You will need longer than stock pushrods, no one can tell you how long, the only correct way to know is to measure, with an adjustable PR, and light weight checking springs on 2 valves one one chamber, preferably with 2 lifters set up solid for checking, because the hyd. lifters may bleed down when checking, I have seen stock VC's clear roller rockers, with the baffel removed.

Same thing with PTV, you have to measure. it might clear on one engine but not another (with exact setups) they are all different. you can use the checking springs for this also. or clay it.

Custom cam is the only way to go.

Ok, thanks for the info. Any idea where I can get the lighter checking springs from? And if I go with a custom cam where is a good place to get one and do I need to tell them what I want or can I tell them my set up and they will figure something out? Sorry if those are stupid questions, im new to the Mustang scene, im a diesel guy

What engine are you installing these heads on? 302,351?
roller cam?
flat tappet?
heres a couple links, you may or may not need a longer adj pushrod. I have used the comp cams brand before, and like them because one turn of the PR equals .050", and has markings etched, so you dont have to use measuring calipers.

Pushrod, trickflow suggests as a starting point for measuring @ 6.750" with roller cams in a 302, this one checks between 5.80" and 6.80", you might need the next larger adj pushrod, If your engine needs 6.80" and larger PR.

Here are instructions for TFS heads, lots of good info on checking PR length and PTV contact.

I have used Camshaft innovations for cams, The owner is having health issues rite now, it may be a while to get a cam, but it would be worth the wait. If you are serious fill out a build sheet, with all your info. and he will build to suit. You can also buy all of the other things listed above from him.
