Default timing and cams?

what timing should I have my car at with cam..The car sounds best at 8-9 dagrees timing, but performs best at around 13....the car has a nice lopey Idle at 8 and it loose that kinda lopey idle with 14 dagrees of timing, the car runs great with 10 which its at now. should I go more for sound or for performance?

10° is a good trade off of performance and reliability. i would leave it there. i dont understand what you mean by sounds better at 8°, it shouldnt sound any differant. you will have to adjust the idle/TPS and all that after making changes to the timing, maybe thats what you mean by it sounds better.

Im saying when you turn up the timming to 10-12 you can start to hear like bad lifters. And the cam has seem to loose its lopey idle. also you can hear a ticking sound from the top end...isnt it better to have your timing at 10, because you loose down low power, and when you have timing up higher you get more topend power. or is this not true

yep, the sound is changing from the rpms rising when you advance the timing. i would stick with no more than 12°. set the timing then set the idle speed, and recheck the timing.
