Starter won't disengage

Remove battery cable going from solenoid to starter.Check to see if the small red wire with blue tracer at solenoid has 12v when not in start position with key. Has 12v replace ignition switch. With small red wire disconnected check for 12v on solenoid side going to starter. Got 12v then replace the solenoid. If above tests are good then replace the starter. There is spring inside starter that is supposed to push bendix back. If broken it is a cheap fix. Bubba

Universal's go bad like clockwork. I went through three before I bought my Motorcraft. I was having the same problem you are now not one month ago. My dad, a Ford tech since 81' told me to get the Motorcraft. He said the universals always go bad. Search other forums and you'll find the same answer. It's pretty well known.
