Unhappy 87 gt massive wiring issues plz help

I have owned and worked on fox bodies since i was 16 and one time in high school we had 8 thats all we drove,so i am very knowlegable on these cars and very rarley have ever took one to a mechanic.Ok i recently bought this car body rust free t-5 shifts better than any i drove car drives perfect no shakes wobbles etc. Here comes the problems at one time in its life it was a undercover cop car, the fuse box looks like something i would have done in middle school hooking up a cd player and toggle switches were everywhere and the flasher fuse/relay isnt even in the box but the flashers worked.Ok heres my problems the fuel gauge doest work, temp gauge doesnt work, rear window defog, fog lights, lights only on bright, cruise control, power mirrors, blinkers, and the windshield wipers now.fuel door release also.As i was driving down the road today smoke genetly rolled out from the steering coloulm so i pulled over and ripped the covers off and the 2 red wires that are on the 6 or 8 wire plug were starting the melt together the plug is fck++ SO THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION IS IS ALL THIS TIED TOGEHTER OR NOT THAT SIMPLE AND I PLAN ON KEEPING THE CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO JUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS INSIDE THE CAR INCLUDING THE FUSE BOX so if anyone has one or knows where to buy one please help ive already bought the main engine harness because the mass air conversion on it was pretty shotty work but will wait till i pull engine to do install it.THANK YOU FOR ANY LINKS/ADVICE/HELP I BLEED BLUE AND as far as im concerened ford only makes one car

Since your are in KY you are pretty close to this guy (a few hours but still lol)

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Frank...38954296175990

Frank is a good guy and can probably hook you up with a new harness.

Alot of those issues can be cause by a bad multifunction switch (turn signal switch) but not all of them.

possible switch: ^
windshield wipers
lights only on bright
blinkers

fuel gauge - many possible issues....sending unit, gauge, wiring, slosh module, printed circuit board...
temp gauge- test gauge by grounding out the temp wire on the motor (single wire sensor on driver side of lower intake)
rear window defog - Does the light come on when you hit the switch?
fog lights- have you tested for power at the fog lights? Grounds?

cruise control
power mirrors - check for power at the switch and then check power at the mirrors when activating the switch

fuel door release- same as others check for power at switch and actuator

The plug that melted sounds like the ignition switch plug. Common issue.....

Remove the panels and start taking pictures of what you have and post and see if we can help. If they are just all cut up to be spliced into then matching wire colors works pretty well and butt connectors will work but soldering is the best way to go.

Well it sounds like you figured out your issues because they are visually obvious so replace them and get it done!

Well, you didn't state whether the car is a GT or LX, so...

If it's a GT, http://bit.ly/wBGz1y
