Default A/C situation...r12/r134a/ES-12a

So my 91 LX convertible 5.0 I just purchased a few weeks ago had a "no blow cold" disclaimer when I purchased it...What to do? Since I work for an HVAC company we decided we would toss in a couple cans of ES12a refrigerant after reclaiming the small amount of r12 that was in the system (which was good news, not flat). We did get it operational & blowing nice cold air.

Since I know the compressor works now...& the car had only been driven a few thousand miles in the last 10 years....I would assume it had some leakage due to lack of operation.

I think the right thing to do now is reclaim the ES-12a (LP Gas) & go back to R12 while it is still somewhat available on ebay for about $100. I'm keepin this car long term & would like to avoild 134a...Anyone know of a good stash supplier?

I'm thinking I'll do an o-ring job on the system (where's the best place to find?) verify a long term leak check, & stay on r12.

Does this make sense to the cooling know-it-alls out there?

Anxious for replies before it gets hot...Dave

the cost to convert it to 134 is far cheaper than purchasing r-12, change fittings, reciever drier, o-rings and add ester oil and be done with it

Yeah. Other thing would be to get some Freeze12, but swapping it to 134a would be the best route. Just remember it runs at higher pressures than r12.

I believe Freeze12 is the same that's in there now temporarily (ES-12A)...I think if I were going to use 134A in my R12 designed system, I would lean towards replacing components (designed for R134A).
