Electric fuel pump installation

Electric fuel pump installation
I have an 84 GT350 20th anniversary edition Mustang that I think needs a new fuel pump. It will run OK for about 20 miles then just die. Leave it set for a few minutes and it starts right up and away I go for another 20 miles. Everything I have seen about replacing the fuel pump tells me it should be professionally installed. Why? What problems could I run in to if I try to do it myself. I am a pretty experienced nut and bolt man. Any advice anyone could give me on this job will be greatly appreciated. Thanx.....

No reason, really, other than carelessness can kill you while doing the job. My neighbor is employed with OSHA, and he used to be an on-scene investigator. He's been to numerous shop explosions in my area caused by someone installing a fuel pump.
DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FULLY. Drain the fuel, undo the lines & electrical, remove the straps, lower the tank out, blow dirt off, remove lock ring, replace pump.
