Default Connection between intake removal & new tranny problem?

I took the car into a new mechanic connection (another leap of faith) to fix a big intake manifold oil leak (rear portion of gasket blown out)...also replaced the water pump I had planned to replace...I like these guys, was happy with paying $415 to get the work done (I hate oil leaks).

So I go in with an oil leak with the car running very good & I come out with no oil leak a NEW confused tranny that doesn't know where or when to shift. It will even kind of bog down, way more than the typical 2.73 lack of performance. I was hoping that maybe the ECM was trying to re-learn (currently running a Bama tuned SCT Eliminator program /91 Octane Race version)....I just disco'd the battery last night to clear the ECM memory, & haven't yet taken it out of the garage.

The mech says it seems to be something clogged in the tranny as he has set the TV cable to factory spec...then refers me to another couple of buddies of his down the street...I have no other option to take the leap again. It didn't do this before but I understand the mechanics fear of "marry-ing" someones "existing" problem. It really didn't do it before.

Do any of you 5.0 experienced guys have any suggestions?

Does the tranny not shift at the rpm it should be shifting at?

your tune has nothing to do with the tranny relearning to shift, an AOD in those years is not electronically controlled. make sure tv cable did not break/ get snapped internally.

Figured that out this morning as it acted the same when I was shuffling over to the Tranny shop...seems like it just wants to wander into 3rd & 4th gears & won't kick down very well...to me it does seems like it's the TV (adjustment or broke). Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow.

The mechanic did have access to my 91 Mustang Shop Manual for all info...

The more that I read about that cable...the sicker I feel about the possibility of frying my AOD...

Wonder what it costs for a 5 speed manual conversion...

If you get a conversion, get a t-56 6 speed. only 3 grand, put in a hydraulic clutch assembly as well. Then get some 3.73's and you'll be sittin ****.

T56 would be very nice, but $4k is not in the budget. I would consider an internally improved AOD, though. Before I jump off that bridge...I better wait to hear from the tranny people. They are always WAY busy & it's killing me.

Anyone heard good/bad about the Transmission Depot AOD's out of Florida? Or does a guy trust a good tranny shop to do the rebuild from original?

Wanted to update for others...after taking in to a tranny shop, the tv cable was way out of adjustment. 1 hour labor & on my way. I just hope no serious damage resulted from the 25 miles of driving in that condition. Reminder for others: IF YOU FEEL THE ADJUSTMENT IS TWEAKED, GET IT TO A SHOP QUICKLY!
