351 windsor heads on 86 gt
i have a 86 gt that has 94 heads on it and converted to mass air. I was looking to get some better heads, but dont want to spend a fortune. I have heard you can bolt 351 windsor heads up with know problems. if so how big of an inrease will i have above the 94 heads and is there a specific year of 351 heads i should get. Also can the 351 heads be ported.

I don't know the flow rate of 351 windsor heads, but I am guessing that they are probably $400-600 for a used set. Then you gonna have to pay to have them trued and a valve job. You might be better off using that $ to get the '94's ported & polished.

I can't remember for sure but I think '86's have a POSITIVE deck hieght to the piston. This means the piston will be above the deck. Mkae sure of the deck situation before you go getting heads.
BTW, around here the C9 or D1 type 351W heads are $100-150 a set....

69-73 351 windsor heads are very similar to gt40p heads in flow #'s and all that good stuff, if that helps any. 74-UP windsor heads are not worth the effort of swapping because they arent any better than what you have. Google it and you will see. Good Luck.

RE: 351 windsor heads on 86 gt
Thanks. I heard gt40 heads are the same heads that are on a ford explorer. I have a buddy that converted his stock fox 5.0 to a cobra and he had gt40 heads. He had to end up selling it thought and bought a stock 91 5.0. Me and him both are now trying to find some gt40 heads. I don't have much money and I'm not really sure it's worth the trouble to put used heads unless they are gonna give me a huge boost of power. Just wanted some advice. What should I do? Besides get another job, lol.
