Tranny Gears Rattle/Grind. Why?

Tranny Gears Rattle/Grind. Why?
I just got another '92 mustang, but I think the clutch is way to hard. It literally has to touch the firewall with all your stregnth. Why is this happening? Do I need a new clutch set? The clutch cable is new, but, can the problem be the stock quadrant? The gears grind in 1st, 2nd, and reverse if the clutch is not fully engaged. Please help me out.

Is the clutch tough to push in? If so, your throwout bearing might be bad. That would sort of contribute to the grinding, and have to push it all the way in. In the title you said there was a rattle. What exactly is rattling? As for your quadrant, that is usually caused from hard pedal pushing and higher stage clutches that have stiffer pressure plates.

if it is an aftermarket clutch then you should have an aftermarket cable, not the stock one, the stock one will work but it will not last very long with a stiff pressure plate. i think that could be part of the problem.

tim..actualy the stock cable is a good piece but the plastic quad will go and a firewall adjuster works well with a sock cable as so many aftermarket ones stetch and /or strip the nut
