Default Flowmaster slip fitting leak

Anybody got a good fix for the leaky slip fittings on a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back other than welding? Just painted bottom of car (and the rest of it) and the passenger side tailpipe leaks like crazy. Dont want black crap all over my chassis anymore.

Why don't you want to weld it?

Just in case I have to remove it. Its hard enough removing it unwelded with would be a bear trying to if it was. I have a MM panhard bar/torque arm set up so there isnt much room back there and its a lot of work to remove that stuff.

You could try a U clamp, available at most auto parts stores. But the only true way to seal it is to weld it. Any competent exhaust shop should be able to weld in some brackets, like where the exhaust bolt to the headers. That might be something to consider if your worried about be able to remove the exhaust later. Good luck...

The system came with u-clamps that are so tight its beginning to crush the pipes. The headers are ball and socket flanges. This is after the mufflers. I might be able to weld some flanges in there but not sure. I know no mufflers shops around here have equipment to do a ball and socket flange. I also need the tailpipes to be able to rotate since they dont line up the best.

You could prolly order just the ball/socket flanges in the right diameter from like summit or something then have the exhaust shop weld it in place of the leaking slip fit.

Think thats what Im going to do. Summit has some that are $25 and have the curved band clamp like the ones on the s197 mustangs. That will be a nice clean look instead of those stupid large 2 piece deals that are on our cars. Ive got a welder so that is no problem.
