Default 88 mustang 5.0 won't start.

Hey guys I got this 88 mustang in my shop that won't start. The other mechanic replaced the engine with a 93 5.0 because the old one had a blown head gasket. He said he never started it before he pulled the engine, the boss just told him the engine was bad so he replaced it. The new engine only starts if you pour some gas down the intake. And then it will only stay running if you feather the gas between 1 and 2000 rpms. If you let off it dies. It gets 30-40 psi at the rails and the timing is right. I think it's the computer but I was hoping for some advice. Yesterday it randomly started and drove great all day and it was warm out, today it wouldn't start and it was colder outside. We checked the timing a thousand times and the fuel pressure. I think it has something to do with the injectors? There getting pulse but im not sure if it's in the right order. Honestly I'm completely lost. I checked foe power at pins 1, 12,13,... I forget exactly but the power wires to the eec the come from the injectors and also the eec relay.

was any of the harness from the 93 used?? meaning often times junk yard motors come with partial harnesses still attached and sometimes techs just leave them if they "appear" the same......reason I mention such is iirc there are 3 variances of the o/2 section that when used can cause some issues if the correct year is not used......also make sure a base idle rest was done......google base idle reset for 88 mustang.

Do you have a spare distributor to swap in ?

Here's a site that helped me out a couple times.

The wiring harness is all from the 88 i tried swapping the old distributor and it wouldnt even fire up with gas down the intake so i put the old one back in. I'ts a little warmer today so I was able to feather the gas up to 3000 rpms. But still as soon as I let off it dies. It will only start about 5% of the time by itself. Otherwise you have to pour gas in it. I'm gonna try the base idle reset and see if that helps. But i'm still thinkink its the eec.
