Default 94 gt backfire and lean

Ok so took my 94 to a mechanic to have water pump , Ecam, and new headgaskets done. Got it back and still was running hot and sputtering when I give it gas. noticed running low fuel presure so I dialed it up to 31. Turned out heads was blown and work was crap so had to re-do it all myself. re-did the heads and put it all back together. turned fuel to 35 preasure. But getting a backfire in exhaust or block and not taking gas well. Egr is removed now but have needle half way pushed in. Cam sounds good but when I try give it gas it runs lean or so it looks like. The headers glow bad when motor is reved a little. Maybe I am not running enough fuel preassure? I have 255 pump new, 24 lb injectors and adjustable regulator and presently running 31 or 35 on gauge. Any help anyone?

Ok so I think I have it fixed. added gas and adjusted timing. never heard any popping when it was running. But it won't idle correct. Its erratic and jumping from 1000 to 4000 rpm. Then like thats not bad enough .... The last time it jumped to 4000 I turned it off and when I tried start it fuel pump primed but starter never got turned over. no noise at all. So was thinking maybe the computer or bad wire or connection. I am ready to give up. Any help at all would be great ....
