1991 t5 nutural safety harness problem
#11
I may have figured out what youve got goin on??
An AOD harness should have 1 grey plug
& 1 black plug coming through the grommet at the trans tunnel.
A T5 harness should have 1 grey plug & 2 black plugs coming through the grommet.
The grey plug on the AOD harness is used for the nss & backup lights.
The black plug on the AOD harness (that you're holding onto in your first picture) is used for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) It plugs into the VSS at the transmission via the speedo cable.
The grey plug on the T5 harness is used for the backup lights. It plugs into the backup lights harness plug coming off the trans.
One black plug on the T5 harness is used for the NGS (neutral gear switch) It plugs into the
NGS harness plug coming off the trans.
One black plug on the T5 harness is used for the VSS.It plugs into the VSS coming off the transmission/speedo cable.
Therefore your car is either an original AOD car or the previous owner swapped in an AOD harness in place of a T5 harness.Otherwise
there would be 3 plugs coming through the grommet at the tunnel.
BTW- Make sure you connect the plug to the VSS because the VSS is used by the ECU for idle strategy, when you're slowing down to stop and between shifts. The VSS activates the idle dashpot function which you can read about in the following thread.
