94 gt idle issues/random smoking in engine
Hey guys. Been on these forums reading up a lot for the past few months. Ran into a few issues I’m having and thought, $&@! with it, I’ll post my own thread and see if I can get some different input. I apologize in advanced if this isn’t in the right place to post this thread…. Bought a 94 gt from a kid a few months ago. Kid didn’t want to put the time, elbow grease, and $$ into getting her the way to where she should be. Feel like I’ve saved a dog from an animal shelter lol. Anyways, I’ve been battling some idle issues since day 1… random rpm spikes, idle is just above the 500 mark, so we’ll call it 600ish. and she just doesn’t feel right. I’ve smoke tested for vacuum leaks and found a few small leaks that I’ve tended to already. Still having the idle issues. I’ve swapped the MAF, IAC, TPS (just for kicks), and tested for vacuum leaks. Still nothing. I’m about stumped. I’m sure there’s another leak somewhere I just can’t seem to find cause when I ran the codes I’m running lean on both banks. Also (you’ll get a kick outta this as I’m pretty new to wrenching my own car) I changed the plugs and wires and put on a new coil, went to start her up and…(wait for it)… idle now goes just below 500 and wants to just die on me. On top of this idle issue from $&@!, she started smoking under the hood abit when I rev her up a little. Anyways, any input would be great! Basically stock..
-cold air intake
-slp loudmouth cb
-msd coil
Thanks again in advanced fellas!

Idle rpm should be around 675.
Warm the car up
Remove the SPOUT connector
set your timing to 20*
unplug the IAC
adjust the throttle stop screw until the car is idling around 425-450rpm
plug in the IAC
set timing back to 10* (and leave it there)
turn off the car
disconnect the battery cables (both)
jump the battery cables together (or hold them together, disconnected from the battery) for about 30 seconds.
reinstall the battery cables
restart car
enjoy your now properly adjusted base idle.
