rebuild the trans my self...
Im have problems with the 2nd gear, I dont want to spend 500 bucks just to have them fix 2nd gear. It just needs snycros, I have the factory for service manual, the shop manual, a book thats like 1000000million pages lol. Well it has step by step guide to rebuild the trans, should I try doing it myself, will it need any sepcial tools, and can I just change the 2nd gear parts and not touch the other parts...how hard would it rate as 10 being hardest, and 1 being easy.

Its not hard its just miticulous, you need to know where everything goes, theres alot of moving parts in there and if you miss somthing or leave somthing in there you will royally f*ck you tranny.

Yea, agreed with blacksnake. You just have to take the chance if you want to do it yourself. And I would have a spare couple hundred laying around to get it fixed if something goes wrong. Hopefully not but just in case.

It's not really a bad job with a little patience and pay very close attention to reassembly. Making sure that not only each part, spacer, washer, etc. goes back correctly, but also with correct orientation. However, if your trans is like mine, bad second gear, you'll find that it's not just the synchros that need replacing, but also the locking rings. I took mine apart entirely, then found out how much parts were to fix it. I ended up reassembling the unit and reinstalling it until I can find a good t-5 for a reasonable price . . .anybody near Vegas have a t-5 for sale?
