coolant light
the car is a 91 vert 5-spd. my coolant light came on last week. i babied her home and checked the coolant level. the level was fine. the next time out, i added about 12 ounces of water to assure any heating problems. once again the coolant level light came on after about 20 min of casual driving. and again the level was fine once i stopped. any insight is appreciated.

RE: coolant light
Is your coolant system sealed and pressurizing? Check for venting air out of the fill cap or any place where there is air. The cooling system needs to be pressurized tpo ablout 14 ( i believe) PSI. Reasoning is at normal pressure the coolant boils at 256ish degrees and if it wasnt pressurized the coolant would boil in your engine if it had no pressure. With a small leak the pressure might end up dropping to where the coolant wont boil in the engine but the engines sensors can detect something wrong. Find the closest and cheapest place with OBD I testing equipment, check the error code and see what the car says is wrong

RE: coolant light
check your coolant sensor. It is the thing that hangs from the overflow bottle lid. It has a fork shape at the end and that needs to be submerged in liquid for the coolant light NOT to show.
So make sure it in liquid and if it is make sure it is clean. If that doesn't fix that problem that buy a new sensor and plug it up...will fix the problem.
