Steering issues...
Well, I took the ol' stang in to get snow tires put on and I was told (and I knew this already by the clicking under hard turns) that I am going to need new ball joints for the left side and I'm just going to go ahead and get the right right side done also. I found some at autozone for 18 bucks per joint, but my dad's going to get an estimate done tomorrow to see how much they would charge to replace them so I can get the alignment done right then and there. Oh, he also said that one of the seals on my power steering are going out, so I'm going to need to get a new rack and pinion. I found a new rack and pinion at 50resto.com for 200 bucks. I'm not too worried about the rack and pinion right now but those ball joints need to be replaced ASAP. Anyone have anything to say about this, sorry I'm just venting and trying to finish my semester finals, this just adds on to the frustration.

I did the ball joints in my 89 lx, wasnt too hard to do. I paid about 100 bucks a ball joint for moog ones i think from napa, lifetime warranty so I spent the extra money. If you can rent a ball joint press it wud prolly only take an hour or so but I ended up using a piece of pipe and a sledge hammer to pound em in and out.

Upper and lowers? If ones bad do them all, the others will fail soon too.
Spend the extra $$$ and youll only have to spend it once. Also, if your looking for an estimate, we had them done in the durango (pressed for time+ lack of a lift = pain in the *** job) and it was 1400, and thats the "best friend of the mechanic discount" As my dad has been friends with this guy since before he was married. If youve got the time and the energy, go for it.

Yeah but I may as well just have them do it because I'm not driving 60 miles with an inaccurate allignment. I might just install the lowers and idk, I guess that I'll have to figure something out.

Theres some f'd up thing with the durangos, my buddy had to get his done an it was 900 because you have to get the lower control arm or spindle. You have get the whole thing becauses the joints dont come out so once they are shot your pretty well f'd so you gotta get the whole thing and I think they are a pain in tha *** to do too. But as for the stangs, not very hard at all, just take the wheel off, take the bearing cap off then the rotor and that tin plate. Then un hook your stabilzer bar and you should be able to turn the spindle enoguh that you can get a hammer in there and pound them out or press them out. Then reverse for installing them. Id make sure that your outter tie rod ends arent ****ed either cause you'll have to do them too if they have any play in them inorder for the shop to align it.
