Alright im done saving I saved up 10k (im still in highschool) and im looking to buy a car. I basically was wondering what you guys would do but im kinda steering myself into the direction of either finding a used 97-01gt manual or automatic, finding an old 5.0 but im having a hard time finding one with decent mileage on it, or getting a rolling chasis 5.0 and dropping an engine in it. Im wondering about doing that how much it would cost to pay somone to put a crate engine in for me. if you guys would tell me what you would do with 10k thad be great with the pro's and con's to each. BTW this car is gonna be almost a daily driver so nothing unreliable. thx

I personally would look into a nice 5.0. And if you can find one with say 90k to 110k that has good compression and pulls hard, it will stay that way till 180k if your good to it, with say a rebuild. "The proof of how long a stock motor will run is in my garage, with 192k on it." If your luckly you will find a 5.0 that was driven by some little old ladie only to church, yes I have seen this. Infact, my uncle is selling a 88-89 blue & silver 5.0 GT 5spd with 110k for $2,500, its hard to beat that! Then you can take another 2-3 grand to do mods with, the rest can be tucked away. As far as reliablility goes, the fewer opions on the car, the fewer things that can go wrong.....

thx guys for all the input its helping alot, im just in a dilemma of either spending the extra cash and getting a 99gt+ with semi low mileage or waiting around for the perfect 5.0. also i heard from my friend that the newer mustangs are alot more powerful then the old fox bodies and the 94-98's.

Sure they picked up a few horse, but they also pick up a few hundered pounds! You might also want to look into the cost difference between the two on insurence......
