351 Cleavland vs Windsor...

RE: 351 Cleavland vs Windsor...
I was going to get a windsor out of a Bronco for $300 bucks (whole motor) and it was already pulled. I dont know how expensive they are around you but in Jersey they sell for practically nothing.

I see your point, but given the Cleveland has a stronger crank, block, and rods, and if you land a 4V Cleveland(4 barrel carb version) you get canted valve (yes bigger and wider) heads with 2.19 intake valves and 1.71 exhaust valves(largest Windsor factory valves are 1.84 and 1.5 intake and exhaust) you get the better and cheaper performance with the Cleveland if you are on a budget. Right cam choice will make over 400HP with stock heads(do that with a Windsor). Personally I have built many small block Fords and if you do not have the $$$ for the aftermarket heads than a Cleveland is a very solid choice. If you drop a Windsor or Cleveland into a Fox Stang you still need to buy an oil pan and headers so that part of the $$$ is out of the factor of cost. Just my thought, but to each their own right? If you choose a Windsor, go with a truck Windsor because they come with stronger rods than the car Windsor.
Another good thing about the Windsor vs Cleveland is that though the Windsor has a slightly better rod ratio the Cleveland has lighter pistons and this equates to less reciprocating mass resulting in more strength and HP, along with a quicker reving engine. You also gain more hood clearance with the Cleveland as it is slightly shorter and smaller then the larger Windsor. I have an excessive amount of room to spare in my 90 Mustang's engine bay with the Cleveland in there. Build what ever you like but never rule out the simple and cheap possibilities.
