do not prime the whole car, paint sticks better to paint, only prime the areas that have been repaired. if you are doing it yourself do a good job at prepping because 95% of the outcome of the paintjob is in how well it was prepped.

You don't need to take the clear coat off to paint. I work in a body shop and do this all the time and blend panels. To prep a painted and cleared surface you just need to go over it with a DA with 800 and then a gray scudd pad in the tight spots and you can paint it.

Try 3M's Adhesive, Wax, and Tar remover for the film...

DR8907, ive been working since i was 14 at a local surf shop, so i had about $4000 to start off with. i paid $2300 for the car. it might not have been the best deal, but i have money left over to put into stuff, and am learning a ton.

865.0trunk, ive been prepping for about a week now, and then my older friend whos painted his stang before is going to look over it, and help me spray the car.

86HOGT, thats what ive been told.. scuff the clear coat with 320, but that was for primer. so i dont need to spray primer if im going with the same color? because many of the panels have been sprayed with sum cheasy rattle can, but ive sanded that stuff of. im going to pick my paint and stuff up monday, and hopefully the ppl at the shop will let me kno wut i need.

I'll get more pics as the project goes along. the only thing that sux is our house is undergoing renovations, and they start renovating the garage in a week and ahlf, to 2 weeks. so im a bit in a hurry. at least the hardest prep work and stuff is over.

Wow, I never knew someone would be in the exact same boat as me. I am also 15 with about a month left before I have my liscense.
I just bought a 94 saleen 5 speed 5.0.....I am loving it so far, and its in almost perfect condition, as of yet all I am doing is customizing it. I recommend triple gloss black for your car color...I think I am probably going to get mine painted black sometime soon. My friend owns an 04 GT and yeah, he pretty much took me under his wing as well. I am learning a crap load and I have come a long way. All Ive put in my car is K&N Cold air Intake, Under-drive pulleys, Limo tint all around, an alpine system in the trunk, 2 inch performance lowering springs, 4.10 gears, and my handheld tuner is on its way. Let me know what you think about mine as well. I wish you luck in your car-building and it looks like its gunna turn out great. Have fun, and PM me sometime.

to get that film off you should be able to use a razor blade and glass cleaner. when i tinted my window it had a solid line of that film and was kind of tacky. jus make sure you use lots of glass cleaner it acts as a lubricate so the razor blade doesn't scratch your windows. im also 16 and have had my 89 lx 5.0 for almost a year should hit mid-high 13s im hopin once i learn to drive it better, parked for witner right now though.
