Default auto to manual conversion

i'm thinking bout ditching the AOD tranny on my 87 notch, and converting it to a manual (i'd like it to be a street car too have a lil fun with it). question is, how decent are the 4cyl 5speed trannies? i know where a bunch are i could pick up CHEAP. i'd really like to do a t5 tremec but i just dont see it with my funding right now.
also with the conversion, i've done a couple b4 and is all im gonna need just tranny, clutch/flywheel, and linkage? they aren't hydraulic right, so i wont need a new master cylinder and clutch resevoir?
i'd like to stay under $800 for the conversion, and i know a LOT of people with mustang parts. whats gonna be my best option as far as which tranny to go with?
