My Idea
I am thinking of building a garage nextspring in my back yard, then I plan on pullin the mustang in there and tearing it down and starting over
I want to pull the engine and clean and paint and redo everything
I was wondering what is the best to do, rebuild/stroke my engine to 347 or to just get a new crate engine??
how does everyone redo the underside of there car? put it up on stands and lay under it for days with a grinder and sander???
to anyone that has done this, what do you find is the hardest part of the teardown and rebuild???

RE: My Idea
First of all WILL IMO, when you start the tear down, make sure you get little bags like ziplocks to put every bolt you take out of your vehicule and with a marker mark where they belong
on the engine, what are your goals on the car... Daily Driver, or track *****, that will mark your start point, crate engines seem a little expensive but if you make the math you spend almost the same when you include hand work and time, if you got the money go crate but thats my opinion, some people like the easy (expensive) way other preffer to know each bolt of there engine and make the rebuild
Good Luck

RE: My Idea
well there are some things with the car i am unhappy with so would like to fix those,
the car would be a street car but not really a daily driver,
I would like to take it to the track occasionallym and eventually be able to take it to some car shows??
first the body obviously needs done, the engine is getting kinda tired so could use one sooner or later so I figure now is just as good of time as any,
I would like to reroute the wires under the hood to innner fenders, fill all of the holes and clean and paint the engine bay, there are some holes in the floor I have to repair.
I would like to upgrade the suspension, brakes, 5 lug conv. and stuff like that
basically I have always wanted a project car and figure my mustang is perfect for it.
there are alot of things i have to decide yet but one thing at a time I guess
like a new GT rear bumper or change to DECH, what to do with interior, as stated before 347 or crate 302, what intake or do i port my GT40 and use it?
stuff like that

RE: My Idea
I say build the 347, your time is free to you so use it, plus you learn alot and your not trusting some $7 an hour knucklehead to do things right. If you want to see what it takes to make 400+HP look at my list on the ...Got a bad 347....thread in this section. I spent about $3000 on the shot block and heads, but did all the assembly myself also the port and polish, then add in all the other goodies like carb, intake, headers will add another $1000. Make sure and buy the best parts, cause you will abuse it and will want it to take it! Good luck, if any help is needed just email me, glad to help.

RE: My Idea
The best thing you can do is go to Barnes and Noble, get a book on rebuilding an engine. Do all your research and follow the directions. Its not that hard, just very involved. If you are handy with tools, you will have no problems.
