Good question on the alt., I'm not sure.

If I were to go w/ headers, I've heard that the shorties don't give the same hp improvement as the long ones. Anyone else hear that?
If I do go w/ the long headers, then I need to replace more of the exhaust components, too...

Yes, teh SN95s have the larger alternator which would help.

Going back to gears, a good way to tell how much they will help is to see what you currently have stock. If you have 3.27 then theres no sense going to 3.55. Might as well jump to 3.73. But if you have 2.73 then that's a different story.

Here's how to tell what your stock gears are. Open up the drivers side door and look for the sticker. It will have a bnuch of info on it, (like your VIN.) Look for "AX." That's your axle code.

Next to / Under "AX" you will see one of the following characters... 8, E, M, Z. Here's what they mean:

8=2.73 conventional differential
E=3.27 Traction Lok limited slip differential
M=2.73 Traction Lok limited slip differential
Z=3.08 Traction Lok limited slip differential

How about the power gain difference in long vs. short headers? Anyone hear of differences?

Also, why did you superimpose a dog to your pic?!

I would upgrade the cooling system, get a 3 core rad or a 2core alum, get rid of the smog system, get headers and new exhaust, get 3.73 gears ( I love mine and 70 on the hwy in 5th is around 2300 rpm) Then work your way towards HCI.

2200 Rpm at 65 isn't too bad, but I think right now I'm around 1800. I imagine 70-75 will be around 2500 or so.

Good luck w/ the gears. Let me know how you like 'em.

Yeah, I saw the article after I began the posting (of course). It's a great article for getting started; just what I was looking for. There's also one in the tech section about advancing the timing, which will save me $280on a chipthat I'll be putting towards other stuff!
