I called castrol and mobil 1. They both told me that switching back and forth from synthetic to conventional is FINE. It will do NO harm. The only trouble people run into with synthetic is that it leaks more or will cause a leak beacuse the molecules are much smaller than conventional oil, therefore it can move around easier and lubricate better. Synthetic is the way to go.
And on the amsoil note....The stuff is awesome. I used it in my motorcycle and loved it. In a vehicle you can get 25000 mile oil changes, or once a year. It is by far the best oil....Do some research and you too will find that answer.

Clean oil is the best oil...real issue is the filter, use the best filter available. Doesn't matter how good the oil is or how long it will last...if the filtration sucks. I used castrol 10w30 GTX in my last motor and it lasted a brutal life of 200,000 miles. Now in my current engine...good dollar amount invested....800 miles to date and I use the same oil I did on the old motor. However I only use K&N filters...trust me filtration is FAR more important than oil type, there really is very little difference between todays top brand oils.

exactly [8D]. but if you run synthetic with an old car like mineyour gonna find all the little oil leaks you have. now i gotta use 10-40 to keep mine from not blowing oil through the valve guides seals

You can switch back and forth, that applied a while back when they had dif detergents, going to synthetic will not create an oil leak it will only make a previous one worse. Unless its full synthetic your pretty much wasting money on synthetic blends and high mileage. Its conventional oil, your paying extra for the regular.

1- do not use syntheitic oil in something that old
2- any good name brand oil will do (I recommend staying away from valvoline)
3- there are much better than filters than K&N, like Wix and Motorcraft
4- when using oil like Amsoil, it can be pricey, so you don't want to change it at 3K mile intervals... it is a waste as those oils offer the same protection for much farther intervals (but yes you need a good clean filter between changes though)
