hey whats up...i have an 87 gt ttop with a junkyard engine about to give out...i currently have an f cam, ez's with 190/160 valves an rpmII upper and lower a 70mm throttle body and spacer, stock injectors and maf, 373gears a king cobra clutch, w/ a 5speed tranny anad 195lph fuel pump...i now want to build an engine that i can drop in and am debating between a 331 rottating assembly from dss or buy everything seperate w/ brodix5.0r heads or a 351..what should i do...what would u guys do...please any comments will help thanks
I am all about using what you have and not having to buy everything again. Sometimes that doesn't work but I do try to do that. If you change to the 351 then you are going to need another oil pan, distributor, lower intake, headers, and a engine. I don't know what your performance plans are but if it isn't to much the 302 based stroker will do fine and you can use the pieces that you already have.
Sell the cam and EZ heads
keep the RPM-II intake and TB
get new MAF and injectors
fuel pump is fine.
Run about 10.5-11 compression
1 3/4 LT's
Buy 347 long block with Canfield heads and 6500rpm custom cam (available options)
from www.fordstrokers.com for about $4k.
That will give you a 450-500hp (flywheel) engine. make somewhere around 350-400rwhp N/A.
