5.0 mustang?

5.0 mustang?
88-90 come with a 302 correct? Well what if I wanted to strip the 302 and rebuild it with a stroker kit. Would that work? The stock 302 starts off with too little power but I like the fox body style. From what I have seen this will be cheaper in the long run than buying a crate engine. I am new to this fox body stuff so if I am wrong about anything please tell me. I want it tobe able to handle a shot of nos or may a turboway later on down the road.I justdont know how strong the 302 blocks are. thanks for info

RE: 5.0 mustang?
I'm not exactly a Fox guru, but I think I can answer a couple of those questions. Those years did come with a 302 and building strokers out of them is not uncommon. It seems sizes like 306, 331, and 347 are popular ones. I don't know much about stroking though other than it involves changing the crank and/or rods (and other related parts) so I'll let someone else answer that. Another good thing is that those years you mentioned have forged internals that make it more boost-friendly so as long as you don't go boost crazy it should respond well to boost. Another good thing is that the 302s have a great aftermarket following so there's plenty of parts available to help wake up your 5.0.

RE: 5.0 mustang?
I have read that to. I plan on putting the biggest stoker kit possible on it if I do. I wonder how much does it put out with a 347 stroker kit? I am aiming for at least 350 to over 400 if possible after rebuild. If thats at all possble without nos or boost. How much boost can they take?

RE: 5.0 mustang?
the 306 is not stroked, it is just bored. Its not really on how much boost you make, its the power level you are at. The stock block will begin to fail at ~500 hp, it may last a while, but it is esentially a time bomb. If you are looking at making more power than that you may wany to look into an aftermarket block, or start with a 351. Personally i would start with a 351, that way you have the cubes, and the reliability, but alot of people stay with, and love the 302 based motors.
