fourth gear problems

Default fourth gear problems

while the car is still i can put it in fourth gear and move it a bit. when i am driving it i wont go into fourth it just grinds. did i blow it up? how do i go about fixing this. i have a 89 mustang t 5 tranny

You need syncros or an input shaft. Time for a rebuild.

yup, my guess is that your syncro is ****ed up... try double clutching, or rev matching and see if itll go in....

it really shouldnt be the input shaft

if it is the syncroshow do i go about replacing them after the tranny is dropped and where can i get the new parts. i have a garage with a lift and love working on the car.

Get yourself a T5 Rebuld manual. They are easy to find on the internet for free download. And Read it. It will walk you through it.

mine has a small grind going into 3rd, i just put the clutch in and wait one or two seconds before i put it in.

yeah i have the same problem, but i usually dont need 3rd to race i can get up to 70 with 2nd.

Third gear is notorious for having problems. This is due to the geometry on the stock shifter. If you rebuild it I highly reccomend a good aftermarket shifter. Something like the PRO5.0 Shifter. They cost about 200 bones but they are worth it. That is unless you can find a good used one.
