as opposed to regular carpet which is like $60 less

 

I got it and I thought it was worth it. Mass back carpet is a carpet that has a layer of sound deadening rubber in addition to the insulation and jute carpet. I am not sure about how well the sound deadening works, but the mass back helped keep the molded shape and made installation pretty simple.
