Default Question for you 5.0 guys

Hey guys. I have a 1995 5.0 mustang that I bought from a 60yrold guy who was the original owner. He really babied the car (driving wise) and it has 90,000 miles on it. Would it hold up and be worth putting an Intake, headers and throttle body? I want it as a driver, but I want a little mroe bark behind the pedal. Thanks guys

it will be fine, just keep up maintenance on it.

my car has 17XXXX on it and its going strong. you may need a rebuild in 50-thousand just to keep it running like new.

Just do a K&N filter and remove your air silencer. Don't buy a CAI its not worth it IMO.

If you want so more bark do gears before anything else. Its the best increase for under 500 bucks. Go 3.73 for manual and 4.10 for auto and if you do alot of highway driving you may want 3.90 or 3.73 for auto. I have 4.10's and I cruise a 2800 rpm at 70mph its an auto.

that rule is so stupid... i dont know who came up with it, but it is the most rediculous thing i have ever read. 410s for a manual is MORE than ok, in fact i wish i went with 4.30s for my vert.. the only gear that is unusable is 1st.. its gonna be the same traction issue regaurdless of tranny. so i dont see what auto n manual has to do with anything. the gas milage isnt any different i lost like 2mpg with 410s.. no big deal

Whats your rpms at though with 4.10's going 75mph? My buddy has 4.10's in his manual I never said I was against I'm just saying what most people say 3.73 and +1 to the gas mileage mine didn't change.

You obviously dont take your car to the drag strip or you would know there is a difference.I have 3.73 gears in my 85 and at the end of the 1/4 mile im at the top of 4th gear if i would have put more gear i would have to put it in 5th and the car would run slower in the 1/4.

It's because autos aren't geared as low as manuals and also draw more power from the engine, they also limit your RPM off the line so lower gears helps the car get rolling faster. Because autos shift on their own lower gears are more suitable because you don't have to worry about hitting 2nd right away.

Just keep in mind the 373 for manual and 410 for auto is a rough guideline, obviously make adjustments for what you want the car for and future plans, there is no "right" gear for every single car.
