Default Steering column help

Someone broke into my dad's 88 mustang and attempting to hotwire it. When they couldn't, they stole some stuff. Anyway, they cut the ignition switch wires and broke off the sliding part of the steering console lock housing. My question is......how do I replace the steering console lock housing? Do I have to replace the entire column? Here are some images:

Default RE: Steering column help

Well, I found a steering column I'm going to purchase. Is it a fairly straight forward process or are there any gotchas I should keep an eye out for?
