can it overheat???

RE: can it overheat???
that sounds like a bad gauge or bad sending unit. go to autozone ask for a sending unit, u want the one with a little screw type thing coming from the top not a plug. its easy to change and cost about 12 bucks, if that dosen't work theres something messed up with the wiring.

just because the gauge isn't working doesn't mean the cooling system isn't!! the gauge is seperate from cooling system it has no influence on whether or not the system works, try replacing sending unit and see if gauge will register

[&:] haha i have the same issue i just got a aftermarket gauge, after countless trys to figure it out, replace the sender, check for bad wire, came up with nothing im assuming my gauge cluster is bad.

it screws into the lower intake, to the right of the distributor. this is what it'll look like,
sending unit
should be a little black plug type thing on the top just pulls off, then put a socket on it and take it out but it may leak a little coolant so be ready.

Pull the wire off of it and use a piece of wire to ground the wire to the engine. If the gauge goes to full hot with the key on, then the sending unit is bad.
All the sending unit is, is a variable ground. The hotter it gets, the less resistance to ground and the needle goes up.
