Default Fuel pump questions

Driving the car today and it dies at a stop sign and will crank but not restart. Spark is fine. Turn the key on and cant hear fuel pump like normal. So I figure it is fuel pump or relay. I know relay is under drivers seat. How do you test a relay? If fuel pump needs replaced I see there are many options as far as gph or lph, what is best? The car has a few mods, no cats and pypes exhaust, hi flow intake, underdrive pulleys. Towed the car to a friends house and it started but would not stay running. Any and all help appreciated. thanks, Guy

WOW ! creepy man i had the exact same problem the stop sign it dies and everything ! ok well just try the relay idk what the difference between the two that u listed are but trust me just replace the relay it is a cheap way to c if thats the problem. But ill be honest that wasnt my problem even after i replaced my pump even installed it, it still whouldnt turn that pump so i took it all out and noticed on the honger that holds the actual intank fuel pump that the wires were bad. so idk if that the case with yours but it sure sounds like it man so get back to me when u find out whats up

I have a similar problem, my car starts and runs sometimes at high idle, sometimes at really low idle and keeps bogging out. Twice now my car stalled approaching an intersection and the the first time i went through a stop sign, didnt crank the e-brake cause no one was there but im lucky there was no cop sitting there. But i never heard of the relay being a problem, maybe i'll try that first.

Which fuel pump did you end up going with?

I am going to need one as well (can't hear mine upon turning ignition on) and was wondering the same thing, which to go with as far as lph is concerned. The car has been sitting for years, and is mostly stock. I plan on adding mods down the road, but for now I just want to restore it. Can I buy a 155lph pump now with everything stock? How much will that limit me in the future?

HERE IS WHAT YOU DO!

get a fuel pressure tester from a parts store (free to borrow)

screw it in to the fuel rail where you test it. turn the key on but engine off and see if it has good pressure, i think at elast 25lbs if not more. then turn the engine on and watch the pressure. if it drops too much, especially when you rev the engine, then yes, bad pump (or REALLLLY clogged filter). filter is cheap $5 so do that first anyway.

as far as fuel flow, since these cars have fuel return lines, you can get a really high flow pump without hurting anything as long as your fuel pressure regulator is working. i put a high flow holley in mine (made by walbro) and it works like a charm
