Default Question about filling holes in engine bay

How is the best way to do this. just start a bead around the hole and work my way in or put something behind the hole and fill. Or is there another way.

i think i would rather put something behind it, tack it in place, and then cut a piece to match the hole and weld it in place

anything bigger than 1/4 in diamter you'll want to get some filler metal. with welding on the body dont do a continous weld bead otherwise you'll warp the finish product. you want to spot weld all the way around alternating where you spot weld out to ensure you dont warp anything due to excessive heat.

so just do a tack weld staggered around the holes till it is full. I will definitely be getting some steel and make templates form the big holes i was mainly concerned about the small ones.

yea small ones just use ones discretion whether or not to use a filler. but generally anything over 1/4 inch diameter get messy trying to weld an open space shut.

and you are correct with your method of welding. staggered spot welds

For the bigger holes i need a piece of metal just a tiny bit smaller than the opening right?
