WOW, thanks for the post, I believe it. Last road trip, I averaged 21mpg doing 80. I also had a bad o2, and had several blasts to 90+ and every time I made a stop, the pedal was on the floor from 30 to 80 to get back on the freeway. Next road trip instead of taking the escort, I am taking the mustang and will try my hardest to keep my foot way out of it. Thanks for the idea!!

Ps: doesn't it make you mad/nervous/anxious with all the potential under your foot and not using any of it?? LOL. Hey, it is still better than driving a 4-banger gas saver right?

How many gallons require to drive your trip?

31 is incredible. Have you GPS's to confirm your speedometer/odometer?

Mine isnt all that fast, so I dont get tempted. I suppose if I do get tempted, I pretend that it handles really well and just do the nascar waiting thing side to side.

Something that has been saving me gas arround town as well is shifting so that your starting the next gear at about 1350-1400 rpm. My reasoning behind that, which seems to be sound, is that at 55mph in 5th gear the car is turning 1350-1400 rpm. That probably is designed like that from the factory because that would be the most fuel efficiant compromise, power/mpg@rpm.

I think its cute when I tell people I got my Mustang to save gas and they laugh at me, to only find out that it gets better mileage than their 4cyl 4 door sedan. More fun more mpg for me, cooler lookin too

Its ok.
Filled up on gas before I left, reset the odometer, drove home, stopped at gas station, divided the miles driven by the gallons. It was just under 2.5 gal (2.49)for my 78 mile trip. I had been getting between 2.7 and 2.65 for the last few trips, but I had the windows open. This time I was able to have them close because the vent blew cool enough with this weather.

Sometimes I calculate it by : How long the trip took (in miliseconds) multiplied by the revolutions of the moon arround the earth in relation to the sun in a given year, +10. That usuially nets me about 700,000,000 mpg.

How crazy do you get about it? I mean, are you filling up at the same gas station, same pump every time? I try to watch my mileage and I notice that some pumps fill me up more than others because the car isn't sitting level. IMO, 1 or 2 MPG could be a fluke.....but 25+ MPG in a stang is killer.

I beat on mine, got 3.73 gears, it is pretty quick and I still pull 22-24 MPG....imagine what I could do if I kept my foot out of it and tried to conserve gas.....but what fun would that be? If I wanted something I had to baby to get good MPG I would buy a grandma car so I wouldn't be tempted. Mustangs are just to much fun to go fast in.....I will have to tell the judge that at my court date next week for "having too much fun"......
