Haha like I said you would be surprised. This is a quote from a thread I ran into a month ago......

"Ok, I dont have one of those nifty on board gas mileage calculator things so I did some real rough math tonight and it's got me mystified.

Here's what I did...

I spent $504 on gas between august 5th and today. In that time, I drove aprox 3,900 miles.
(504 / 3,900 = .129....)
At that rate, I'm getting 12.9 cents per mile worth of gas, rounded up to 13 cents/mile.

If gas has been selling at the avg. price of $3.89/gallon, then divide 3.89 by .13 and you get 29.92. So that means for every 3.89 cents of gas(1 gallon) I buy, I'm going 29.92 miles?

Is there ANY freaking way i'm SERIOUSLY averaging nearly 30 miles per gallon!?!?!

I am gonna keep track on a more than 5 week time basis to find out the truth, but seriously unless my brain has fallen asleep tonight, somehow i'm averaging nearly 30 miles per gallon."

That's pretty impressive. I was getting 25 regularly on the highway but since they started with the 10% ethanol here it's been dropping off a bit. I'm guessing in addition to all the other stuff you mentioned you probably have 2.73s also?

start with a near empty tank. go fill it, mark how much for gas and the gallons. record what ur miles are at time of fill. drive then the next time you go to fill, mark down the same info. then take the miles that you drove and divide that by the new amount of gallons.

Yea, next time im going to keep track of the actual gallons used vs miles driven for more accuracy.

I am not sure if i have 2.73. its an 89, and if you want to do the math its 1400rpm at 55mph in 5th gear on a 225/?/15 (dont remember the aspect)

car is stock.

Next time go through a FULL tank of fuel instead of such a short trip...2.73's = M on your axle code (3.08 = Z)...

I'm raising the flag!

The dollars spent has nothing to do with this calculation.

Calculate it like blk40th explained and verify your speedometer/odometer with mile markers or a GPS.

I don't even know what our car gets. I'm not I want to know either. At I've watched that carb dump fuel in. It dumps. A lot.
