Calculate it like blk40th explained and verify your speedometer/odometer with mile markers or a GPS.
where did he say anything about prices he was doin it by how many gallons he used

i used to get 26mpg in my 86 gt all stock, all freeway. found that it got around 12mpg all intown driving though. fill the tank, reset od drive top off tank, divided milage by number of gallons replaced at fill up. only accurate method to calculate.
some gas pumps will click before the tank is topped off more than others so that can be a factor. 31mpg is unheard of. in my opinion, not possible with a fully stock 5.0 of any year.are you using one of the tornado things in the intake or anything? fuel additives?? 87 gas? what kinda gas?
hmmm doesnt sound right

My bad. Confused with another thread which included how much $$$ spent on fuel vs miles driven since a few months ago.

Well, you beat mine. I got 26.82 MPG on a 1500 mile round trip. I set cruise control at 77 MPH with windows up until it got too warm at 2:00PM or so.

Nice... I get avg mixed of 26mpg in my 1993, but its a coupe so its lighter than yours, and its a 4 BANGER!!! to top it off the wheels/tires combo are very light.. and the narrow tire = small contact patch

Around town, I get anywhere from 17.29 - 18.68. Yes, I keep track. Good indicator of potential problem(s). I don't really get on the car that much though. I think I've stood on the accelerator about 4-5 times since I've owned it. I drive it mild to "spirited."

Exclamation

I hope to equal or beat your great MPG in mixed driving in my project car, this project is for a daily driver manual transmission coupe, I have taken ideas from diverse sources and opinions and put together a plan for me to achieve this particular goal:
DD lasting a couple hundred-thousand miles, decent MPG, American car V8 RWD
Simple enough to easily maintain myself, plentiful replacement parts available

I have decided to use 289 crank and rods and 1989 block and pistons (still in good cond.)
I will have a "5.0 HO" = 289 cubic inches and will add 100% stock GT40p heads
The cam I have selected has less overlap than any other roller cam with 351 firing order ive found, anyway this is the basis of my build tons of other details reflecting the research Ive done are all dumped into this document:

Here is my Isky cam compared to 1989 cam (MAF) which stayed the same mostly up to 1992
PART 1989 STOCK ISKY 371252
INT .050 ? 204
EXH .050 ? 210
INT LIFT 0.444 0.465
EXH LIFT 0.444 0.48
ADV INT 276 252
ADV EXH 266 257
LSA 116 112
OVERLAP 39 30.5

Very cool. I'll read this over tonight. Now, I think the reason I got/get this mileage is because the entire suspension is brand new and the tires are brand new with a good alignment.
