Default Donor Explorer motor years

So i have been really considering doing the gt-40 swap and have been shopping around for parts but buying everything separate seems to be more expensive than buying the whole damn motor. I found a 100k mile 98 explorer motor in my area for 400 bones. I am wondering if some years are better than others? I have a powerdyne 6psi kit, so would it be best to stay away from gt-40p heads? If so, what years exactly should i be looking for? Thanks for the help, matt.

The motor has hyper pistons and I can sell you a set of ported gt-40 heads for 400 bucks that you can tell have that in them by looking at the pictures. Why not go forged?

he's got a '90 so he's got forged pistons. and hopefully unless its smoking or causing problems he just means he's going to take the heads/intake off of the new motor, and put them on his.

precisely. im just going to use the heads/intake and slap em on my motor. it seems to be cheaper than buying the heads and intake all separately. so i should be looking for anything before 97.5, that way i dont have to change my headers that i already have.

your headers would bolt up fine with gt40's. i know the bbk's and i believe the frpp's both work with the p's, but i don't know about others.

I would look for a 96-97 1/2 with the GT 40 heads...just change the cam & you have basically a '93 Cobra Engine...

also ive read if you get the lightening heads they have larger combustion chambers which would be a plus since your running boost
