Aftermarket Tach info (just for future reference)
So I just installed an Autometer Tach and had a strange occurence. The tach would read high on idle (1200) as opposed to actual RPMs (800). When I revved, the guage would stop at about 1500-1800 and sit there. From that point on, the guage was effectively stuck at 1500-1800, not moving either up or down regardless of what I was doing with the throttle. So I called Autometer and told them what was happening, thinking I was going to have to undo all the wiring I had just completed and send my tach to them for repair/replace. They asked me how it was wired, I told them straight to battery, to tach wire, to ignition and to same ground as my radio. He said find a better ground (preferably a chassis ground). Since my radio has always worked flawlessly, I did not think this would fix the problem, but wouldn't you know, the tach works perfectly now.
I just thought I would pass on this tidbit in case anyone is planning to install a tach and runs into the same issue.
