Default shock/strut help!!!! 88GT

I have a 88 Gt convertible that the rack and pinion just started leaking. I bought the car probley about 8 yrs ago. But today i just noticed that the shocks/struts on the front might have a problem. The top nut is only holding onto the strut by maybe two or three threads and they are definetly tight. They guy i bought it form had just put new shocks/struts on right before i bought it. I am guessing there must be shims or a plate maybe that shouldnt have been installed on the gt convertible??? Cant beleive i have been driving around like that for about 8yrs like that and have even pulled the engine out and now finally noticed that. Any ideas??? I definetly want to get it corrected before i take it in to have the alignment done. thanks for any info

Do you have stock suspension parts? There's no difference between shock set ups on convertibles and hardtops. Chances are something is in between the strut and strut tower preventing the strut from coming through the full way.

when i got my new struts it had a little bushing in the box and it said to only use it if they were going on a mark 7 and not to use them on a mustang

Caster camber plates also have similar settings. Do you have aftermarket caster camber plates? Depending on the strut some require spacers and some do not.
