Default Starter? Flywheel?

Attempted to start the wife's LX tonite. The starter sounded a "little off" just like it usually does. After a split second it stopped turning the engine and just made a whining noise. It was almost dark, so I didn't crawl under for a look. I'll have a look when I get home from work tomorrow. I'm hoping it's just loose bolts on the starter. If they're tight, what's next? Pull the starter and check ring gear and flywheel? Is there an inspection cover under the flywheel? A little guidance, please. Thanks, Kelly.

most likely she would have heard something before if the flywheel was missing some teeth.

It most likely needs a starter.
